Our brain is connected to every muscle in our body by a series of nerves. The brain tells these nerves when we want to make some sort of a movement with our body, so the nerves send these moving directions from the brain to the muscles. When the cells in the nerves start to atrophy, they no longer send directions to the muscles, which causes a disease known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – ALS.
About ALS/LOU Gehrig’s Disease
ALS/LOU Gehrig’s Disease is characterized by degeneration of both upper and lower motor neurons that leads to muscular paralysis. It is a progressive disease, meaning it gets worse over time.
